We earn commission on every tool we feature. What that never buys is a position. We test first and rank second, and a tool that pays well can still finish last. How that works.

Course and community platforms

Where to host what you know and charge for it. The other side of the learning coin.

If Where to learn AI is about joining, this is about building. These are the platforms people run paid communities and courses on.

The AI features are mostly course-creation helpers, and they are rarely the reason to choose one. Fees, ownership of your audience, and how hard it is to leave matter far more, so that is what we weight.

What this list is, and is not

Every tool on this page has a commercial relationship with us, and we earn if you buy through our links. That is why we rank the set we cover rather than claiming to rank the whole market. What the money never buys is a position: the highest payer here can and does finish last.

1 tool considered for this page. The leaderboard reports the wider market in full, including tools we earn nothing from.

How we tested this category

Platforms cannot be scored like software in a week, so we build a real paid offer on each one and run it for at least thirty days before writing anything.

We record: total cost including transaction fees at a realistic revenue level, whether you can export your member list and content, how much of the experience is branded as theirs rather than yours, what the AI creation tools actually produce, and what happens to your members if you leave.

The exit test is the one nobody publishes and everyone needs. A platform that makes leaving painful has priced that in somewhere.

Declare it before you read on

We run our own community on one of these platforms and we earn commission on more than one of them. Our own is labelled as ours wherever it appears, and this page tells you which tools pay us. It does not affect the order.

Which one is yours

  • You want a community first, courses second. Different shortlist to the one below.
  • You are selling structured courses to cohorts. Completion tooling and certification matter, and most community platforms are weak here.
  • You already have an audience elsewhere. Look hardest at fees and export. You are buying infrastructure, not an audience.
